James has been riding bicycles for many years and recently moved back to the Hill Country of Texas from the north. Since bicycling is a year-round activity here, James re-started daily riding on his Colnago C40. We did a Precision Laser Fitting on James and determined that he would be much more comfortable on a custom geometry bike, and we designed one around his dimensions.
This Parlee Z1 is a 60 cm bike with a 55 cm toptube and an extra long headtube. It accomodatess James' long legs and allows a perfect handlebar drop for his arms. We designed the frame stiffness around his weight and riding style, and since we knew the exact location of the handlebars and saddle, we could make the frame work with a 120 mm stem and place the seatpost clamp in the right place on the saddle rails.
Since the bike will be ridden in very hilly terrain and over rough "chip seal" roads, we aimed for a combination of lightness, strength and durability in the components. Here is the component list for a bike weighing in at just over 15 lbs complete with pedals and bottle cages:
