Nudity! Not really, but this Parlee Z3 has no clear coat, just UV protectant. Mated with the new Lew PRO VT-1 wheels, this bike is lean and mean.

Serotta Meivici with Lew Wheels

We recently added Serotta as one of our premiere frame providers. Ben Serotta has built a company based on excellence and consistent performance for many years and when they approached us and asked us to consider them we were both honored and flattered. We feel that the Meivici is one of the finest bicycle frames in the world and are proud to showcase our first example. As with most of the showcase bicycles we produce, this bike is sized for Kevin Saunders for a couple of reasons. First, most people who do business with us want their own custom bike, not one off the floor. Conversely, some people take great pride in owning one that was built for the owner, providing they are 5' 10"! Second, we need to have apples to apples comparisons with bicycles so our first major test subject is specified on sizing parameters that allow us to test one brand with confidence that we are testing the frame itself, not another geometry or setup.

That said, two things stand out with the Serotta. Their fit and finish are outstanding. Every detail is executed extraordinarily well. Second, the ride is exactly what we expect from a frame with slightly smaller tubes than a Parlee. It's ride is very similar, yet a little more compliant. This will be most evident on rough "chip seal" roads, which seem to be more popular everywhere.

This bike has milled lugs that are precisely machined to accept the custom tubes. Each tube is bonded to the lug so Serotta can tune the ride very well to each owner's taste and riding style. Serotta also does very well in the little details of the frame, from the nicely sculpted dropouts to the propietary seatpost clamp and shift cable adjusters.

Dave Powers of Serotta said something we think hits the nail right on the head. He said, "At this level of bicycle studio, a frame builder is a solution provider. The sizing of the frame is defined accurately and the frame builder must be able to verify that the data will produce a great frame and then be able to actually produce that frame." We have been thrilled with the Serotta relationship and are excited to build more of these fine machines for our clients.
This example has Campagnolo Record drive train with the new Zipp cranks and ceramic bearings. The Zipp Vuma Quad is a new 560 gram crankset with the narrowest Q factor in the industry. We are very impressed with these cranks. The Zipp bars, stem and cages round out the ensemble and mate nicely with the Lew wheels. We specified Zero Gravity calipers and Nokon cables so the bicycle is quite nice indeed.
