We work very hard to accomodate people of all sizes at KGS Bikes. as one gets very small or very tall, the challenges of providing a bike that fits perfectly and is both safe and easy to handle becomes increasingly difficult. With our partnership with Zinn Cycles, we are the only bicycle dealer in the country that can provide the Zinn "Project Big" bicycle. While one can order the bike frame direct, we have the ability to combine our unmatched fitting system with a Concours bike build, resulting in a package that is unique.
Very tall people have challenges that the general population knows little about. Almost everything needs modification or changes, from kitchen counter heights to moving auto seats aft. Lennard Zinn has designed a bicycle frame and large cranks that solve some major big bike problems and allow one up to 7' 6" to ride comfortably and safely.
- Safety is the biggest issue. Bikes have a top tube, seat tube and down tube, all acting as a triangle, even though the head tube is present. When the bike gets very large, the head tube does also, and the bike frame behaves like a four-sided structure, not a triangle. The result is instability and "speed wobbles". Lennard designed the speed wobbles out of the big frame by lowering the top tube and making it slope. The net effect is one can ride a bike with stability and safetly that can be ridden with the hands off the bars.
- Optimal crank length is another issue. The optimum crank length is 21% of leg length, and since the bottom bracket is raised, one can specify up to 220 mm crank arms!
- We use other components that are very strong for their weight, with the resulting bike weighing less than 20 lbs (75 cm size, 19.64 lbs).
- Both magnesium and titanium are available for bikes up to 68 cm. Only titanium is available for the really big bikes.
- We also specify Rocket7 shoes which are made in stock sizes up to size 53, and custom sizes as big as is necessary.
- We are also packaging the Tacx Fortius virtual reality trainer with the bike and shoes in a custom package. This will allow rehab on one's personal bike if they have been injured, or the weather is inclement.
